　　珠穆朗玛峰（Chomolongma），藏语意为“圣母”，海拔8848米，为世界第一高峰，位于喜马拉雅山中段之中尼边界上、西藏日喀则地区定日县正南方。峰顶终年积雪,远望冰川悬垂，银峰高耸，一派圣洁景象。珠峰地区拥有4座8000米以上、38座7000米以上的山峰，誉称地球第三级。珠峰脚下发育了许多规模巨大的现代冰川，冰斗、角峰、刀脊等冰川地貌现象广泛分布；雪线以下冰塔林立，其间更有幽深的冰洞、曲折的水河，景色无比奇特壮观。

　　此处建有一座世界最高的寺庙绒布寺。此寺于1899年由红教喇嘛阿旺丹增罗布创建。绒布寺也是观看珠穆朗玛峰的最佳位置；两者直线距离25公里。
　　

　　2008年5月8日，北京奥运圣火珠峰传递登山队成功登顶珠峰。这是登山队员在峰顶展示“祥云”火炬、中国国旗、奥运五环旗和北京奥运会会徽旗：
